The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on ten key members, operatives, and financial facilitators associated with the Hamas terrorist group. These sanctions target individuals involved in managing assets in a secret Hamas investment portfolio, a Qatar-based financial facilitator with ties to the Iranian regime, a key Hamas commander, and a Gaza-based virtual currency exchange and its operator. This action is part of ongoing efforts by the United States to disrupt Hamas’s sources of revenue in various locations, including Gaza, Sudan, Türkiye (Turkey), Algeria, and Qatar, and is carried out in coordination with regional partners and allies. To date, the Treasury has targeted nearly 1,000 individuals and entities connected to terrorism and terrorist financing by the Iranian regime and its proxies, including Hamas and other Iran-aligned terrorist groups in the region.
The sanctions aim to restrict the financial resources available to Hamas and its affiliated individuals and entities.
