Director Christopher Wray has named Jeffrey B. Veltri as the special agent in charge of the Miami Field Office. Mr. Veltri most recently served as a section chief in the Security Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Veltri joined the FBI as a special agent in 2002 and was assigned to work health care fraud in the San Diego Field Office. He also served on the joint terrorism task force and investigated international terrorism matters.

In 2006, Mr. Veltri deployed to Iraq to support the Regime Crime Liaison Office. He investigated war crimes and supported the Iraqi High Tribunal’s prosecution of former Iraq leader Saddam Hussein.

Mr. Veltri was promoted in 2011 to supervisory special agent and transferred to the Cyber Division at FBI Headquarters, where he served as the special assistant to the division’s assistant director. In 2013, he moved to the San Diego Field Office to supervise the health care fraud, public corruption, and civil rights squads. He also supervised FBI San Diego’s Imperial County Resident Agency, where he was responsible for the border corruption, human trafficking, and child exploitation task forces.

In 2016, Mr. Veltri was promoted to chief of the Civil Rights Unit in the Criminal Investigative Division at FBI Headquarters. He oversaw the management of all hate crime, color-of-law, human trafficking, and Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act investigations in the country.

Mr. Veltri was named an assistant special agent in charge of the New Orleans Field Office in 2018. He was appointed section chief of the Security Integrity and Investigations Section of the Security Division at FBI Headquarters in 2021. Mr. Veltri also served as the division’s acting deputy assistant director for more than a year, overseeing internal security investigations, physical security, the polygraph and chief security officer programs, and the FBI Police program.

Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Veltri was a public defender with the Broward County Public Defender’s Office in Florida. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of South Florida and a Juris Doctor from the Widener University School of Law.
